Wanted

Fuller-foam HPSB built around continuous-double drive — ride it shorter.

SHORTBOARDTHRUSTER / 5-FINCHEST-HIGH TO HEAD-HIGH (OPENS TO OVERHEAD+)FROM $750

The Wanted is the Lundquist take on the forgiving HPSB: a fuller-foam shortboard built around continuous-double drive that's meant to ride two to six inches shorter than your daily HPSB. The bottom runs continuous double concave through the entire length of the board — most shortboards transition contour zones (single concave at front, double or vee at the fins); Wanted runs the same channel system from nose to tail, which is what makes it feel "always on" through the fattier sections of a wave instead of waiting to come alive after the first carve.

WHAT IT WANTS

Fattier-faced everyday SoCal surf with shape — chest-high to head-high. T-Street on the right tide, Salt Creek on a clean morning, Trestles secondary peaks when Lowers is too crowded, San Onofre on a fun day. Travels well to mainland Mexico point breaks, Indo on the smaller days, and Hawaii reef at moderate size — anywhere the wave faces draw out instead of going hollow.

SKILL LEVEL

Intermediate to advanced surfers who already ride a modern HPSB and want a more forgiving everyday driver. The fuller volume curve is what makes the ride-shorter framing work — surfers with HPSB technique will pick it up the first session.

WHAT IT'S NOT

Not a step-up — the flat tail rocker (LOW) and continuous-double contour are tuned for fattier wave faces, not heavy push. For steeper hollower surf, our Talisman Step-Up is the right call. Not a quad-flagship either; if you want quad as your stock fin mode, our 2nd to None is the right call. Not a small-wave grovel — for knee-to-waist mush, a wider flatter shape will paddle and plane better.

THE DESIGN

The continuous double concave is the defining detail. Most modern shortboards run a single concave through the front and middle and transition to a double or vee at the fins; the Wanted runs the same channel system from nose to tail. The result is always-on drive — the board doesn't wait for the first carve to come alive. Pair that with a flat tail rocker (1.94" at 5'10" — LOW), and the board maintains speed through the flatter sections of a wave instead of stalling. The hydrodynamics literally ASK FOR a quad fin setup, but stock is a thruster on Futures plugs because that's the everyday-shopping reflex — the customer who wants the full quad-mode feel can spec the 5-fin (quad+nubster) custom alt for the rear stabilizer that adds pivot bite without giving up quad drive.

THE OUTLINE + RAILS

The Wanted runs a fuller volume curve than the rest of our shortboard line — at 5'10", it's almost an inch wider than our flagship HPSB. That's by design. The platform is meant to ride two to six inches shorter than your daily HPSB, and the extra foam is what makes the shorter length paddle and plane like the longer board you'd usually reach for. 60/40 rails through the midsection give a forgiving rail-to-rail feel — the right call for an everyday driver. Hard rails through the last 12" of the tail release water cleanly at speed, which is what makes the board feel lively off the top without washing out mid-turn. Squash tail stock; swallow tail available as custom alt for surfers who want bite off the back foot.

STOCK DIMENSIONS

The Wanted runs a fuller volume curve than the rest of our shortboard line — at 5'10", the Wanted is almost an inch wider than our flagship HPSB. That's by design: the platform is meant to ride two to six inches shorter than your daily HPSB, and the extra foam is what makes the shorter length paddle and plane like the longer board you'd usually reach for. The catalog caps at 6'4" for the same reason. Above 6'4" the volume curve pushes outside what we consider modern shortboard territory — at that point the shape would lean toward fuller-foam mid-length feel, not forgiving-HPSB feel. Featured sizes default to the 26–35L band — that's where most everyday surfers actually sit. Hit "All sizes" to see the full 1-inch-increment catalog.

Featured sizes cover the core-liters range (26–35L) most of our customers land in. Need a size outside the band? Expand All sizes or start a custom order for a specific dim.

+ How to think about dims

Length. The Wanted is meant to be ridden shorter than your daily HPSB — typically two to six inches shorter. A surfer who rides a 6'2" HPSB will likely sit at 5'8"–6'0" on the Wanted. The fuller volume curve makes up for the lost rail line; the continuous-double contour keeps speed alive through the flatter sections that a shorter board would normally struggle with.

Width. The wider 5'10" Mid (20.000") gives the lead foot a broader, more loaded surface — pairs cleanly with the always-on drive of the continuous-double bottom. Narrower (under 19.5") starts pulling the board back toward conventional HPSB territory, which isn't what the Wanted is for.

Thickness / volume. Sizing the Wanted is a paddle-and-plane vs rail-bite trade. Sizing up adds paddle and floats you through fat sections. Sizing down sharpens rail bite and lets you keep the Wanted in its forgiving-HPSB sweet spot rather than drifting toward groveler feel.

Between sizes? We usually size up in volume (not length) for softer waves, down in volume for overhead surf with real push. Don't size up in length — the cap at 6'4" is design intent.

FIN SETUP

Thruster stock. Futures boxes. The Wanted's continuous double concave bottom and flat tail rocker make for an always-on drive feel that pairs cleanly with a thruster setup — predictable, modern shortboard reflex, lively off the top.

5-fin (quad+nubster) is the custom alt for surfers who want the full quad-mode feel — the contour literally asks for quad drive, and the rear nubster trailer is a small FCS II / Pavel-style stabilizer behind the rear quad fins that adds pivot bite without giving up quad drive. John John Florence rides quad+nubster at J-Bay; this is that build.

Recommended Fins

A modern shortboard wants fins that balance drive and release. Mid-rake (neutral) is the everyday default — runs across most clean shoulder-to-overhead conditions. Lean rake for heavier drawn-out turns; lean pivot for tight, top-to-bottom shortboard surfing.

RAKE SPECTRUM

Where each recommended fin sits between drawn-out rake (heavier arcs, more hold) and tight pivot (vertical release, modern shortboard turning). Mid-rake (neutral) is the balanced default.

On a high-performance shortboard, the spectrum reads: rake = drive priority through long-line carves; pivot = release off the top in steep pockets. Mid-rake (neutral) covers most everyday HPSB conditions.

WHAT TO PICK

Mid-rake (neutral) is the safest first pick on a high-performance shortboard — drive plus pivot release covers most clean shoulder-to-overhead conditions. Lean toward rake for heavier, drawn-out turns when the surf has push and shape; lean toward pivot for tight, top-to-bottom shortboard surfing in punchy beach break. Per-fin picks for this model are coming — message Blake for current recommendations across FCS, Futures, True Ames, and NVS.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much shorter than my daily HPSB should I ride this?

A. Two to six inches shorter is the typical Wanted sizing. A surfer who rides a 6'2" HPSB will likely sit at 5'8"–6'0" on the Wanted; a surfer on a 6'0" HPSB will likely sit at 5'6"–5'10". The fuller volume curve makes the shorter length paddle and plane like the longer board you'd usually reach for, while the continuous-double contour keeps speed alive through the flatter sections that a shorter board would normally struggle with. Send your daily HPSB dims, weight, and home wave profile when you start the order — we'll dial in the exact length together.

Why does Wanted cap at 6'4" when other Lundquist shortboards go to 6'7"?

A. That's design intent, not a manufacturing limitation. The Wanted runs a fuller volume curve than the rest of our shortboard line — at 5'10", it's almost an inch wider than our flagship HPSB. Above 6'4", the volume curve pushes outside what we consider modern shortboard territory; the shape would lean toward fuller-foam mid- length feel, not forgiving-HPSB feel. If you're a heavier rider looking for an everyday driver longer than 6'4", we'd talk about a different model entirely rather than stretch the Wanted past its design intent.

What does "continuous double concave" actually feel like compared to a single-to-double?

A. Most modern shortboards run a single concave through the front and middle of the board, then transition to a double concave or vee under the fins. The Wanted runs double concave through the entire length of the board — same channel system from nose to tail. The feel difference is "always on" drive vs. needing to load the rail to wake the contour up. On a fattier wave face — chest-high T-Street on the right tide, a clean shoulder-high Salt Creek session, a drawn-out mainland Mexico point — the Wanted keeps speed alive through the sections where a single-to-double would lull. The trade-off: the Wanted is less "trackier" off the back foot than a held-rail single, which is part of why we ship it as a thruster default rather than a quad.

Thruster or 5-fin (quad+nubster) — which should I order?

A. Stock is a thruster on Futures plugs — modern shortboard reflex, predictable drive, lively off the top. The 5-fin (quad+nubster) custom alt unlocks the quad mode. The continuous-double contour and flat tail rocker pair cleanly with quad — sustained drive, less pivot, more speed maintenance through fattier sections. The center stabilizer is a small FCS II / Pavel-style nubster behind the rear quad fins; it doesn't generate drive on its own but adds pivot bite that quad alone won't deliver. John John Florence rides quad+nubster at J-Bay; the 5-fin custom alt is that build. If you don't have strong opinions on fin mode, go thruster — it's the everyday-shopping reflex for a reason. If you know you prefer quad drive in fattier wave faces, spec the 5-fin custom alt.

What waves does the Wanted actually work in?

A. Fattier-faced everyday SoCal surf with shape — chest-high to head-high. T-Street on the right tide, Salt Creek on a clean morning, Trestles secondary peaks when Lowers is too crowded, San Onofre on a fun day. Travels well to surf-trip destinations where the wave faces draw out instead of going hollow — mainland Mexico point breaks, Indo on the smaller days, Hawaii reef at moderate size. It is not a small-wave grovel — for knee-to-waist mush, a wider flatter shape will paddle and plane better. It's also not a step-up — for steeper, hollower, double-overhead-with-real-push surf, a held-in tail with more rocker handles it better.

What tail shapes do you offer?

A. Squash tail stock; swallow tail available as custom alt (+$15 upcharge). The forgiving-HPSB platform doesn't pair with held-in tails meant for steeper hollower waves, so we don't offer round or pin tails on the Wanted by design. If you're shopping for a held-in tail for steeper surf, we'd point you at a different Lundquist shape entirely.

How long does a custom Wanted take to build, and what does it cost?

A. Three finish tiers: $750 clear sanded (the fastest turnaround, 4–6 weeks), $900 resin tint sanded (color in the lam, then sanded smooth, 6–8 weeks), $1,100 resin tint with gloss + polish (top-tier display-quality finish, 8–10 weeks). 25% deposit at order; balance on completion. Designed in Shape3D, CNC-cut, and finished by Jack Sykes in San Clemente — built to your specs across the customizer's tail / fin / foam / resin / aesthetic / structural axes.

Is the Wanted a beginner board?

A. No. The Wanted is for the intermediate-to-advanced surfer who already rides a modern HPSB and wants a more forgiving everyday driver. The fuller volume curve is what makes the ride-shorter framing work — surfers with HPSB technique will pick it up the first session; surfers still learning to read sections, popping up inconsistently, or surfing on a foam top will have a better time on a board with more volume and a flatter rocker overall. Once you're trimming on a real shortboard and want a board that actually works on fattier-faced days — that's the Wanted's window.
