The Spectre is our modern mid-length — built for clean waist-to-head surf where you want glide, paddle, and dynamic turns in one board.
WHAT IT WANTS
Clean, shaped waves — waist-high to shoulder-high with some push. Soft-breaking points, beach breaks with a rideable face, reefs on a mellow day. The mid-length wants a face to draw turns on, not just a peak to drop into.
SKILL LEVEL
For intermediate-to-advanced surfers who want glide and paddle without giving up turning ability. Shortboarders transitioning up for paddle; longboarders transitioning down for turns.
WHAT IT'S NOT
Not a hollow-reef shortboard — when the surf gets steep and heavy, the Innuendo or a step-up handles it better. Not a pure traditional log either — if you want trim-and-cross-step-only rides, a traditional longboard is more tuned for that.
BUILD DETAILS
Build overview — rocker profile, rail shapes, fin positions. Hover any zone for the per-section call-outs.

THE DESIGN
Medium entry rocker gives real paddle and an easy drop into soft-breaking waves; a high exit rocker keeps the tail lively off the top. Under the board, the flow reads belly nose into a single concave through the middle, then vee panels through the tail — the belly lets the front of the board hand off rail-to-rail without catching, the single concave loads the lead foot and drives through the belly of a wave, and the vee tail releases cleanly out of turns and rolls the board rail-to-rail at mid-length speeds.
THE RAILS
60/40 rails through the midsection — forgiving at mid-length speeds (faster than a log, slower than a shortboard) without losing bite when you lay the board on rail.

STOCK DIMENSIONS
Stock dimensions are where we start. Customers tweak width, thickness, and volume to match where they surf and how they ride. Talk to Blake about any adjustments you'd like to make — he'll help you dial in a board with your riding preferences in mind.

+ How to think about dims
Length. Mid-lengths want length to work — 7'2"–7'8" is the heart of this catalog. Longer = more rail line, more paddle, more drawn-out turns. Shorter = quicker rail-to-rail, tighter in the pocket. Mid-length riders come from two directions: shortboarders sizing up for paddle, longboarders sizing down for turns.
Width. Mid-lengths run wider than shortboards through the middle. Narrower within the mid-length range = holds a line in clean, fast points. Wider = more paddle on softer days, more stable.
Thickness / volume. More volume = more paddle and more margin. Less volume = sensitive underfoot; turns feel crisper. Mid-length riders span a wider volume range than shortboarders because the background matters — shortboarder transitioning up may want 45–55L; longboarder transitioning down may want 55–65L.
Between sizes? Size up in volume for glide and paddle; size down in length (not volume) for tighter turns.

FIN SETUP
Spectre ships with 3 fin boxes total — a center single-fin box plus two Futures side boxes. You only run ONE config at a time, never all three. Choose twin-only for skate, speed, and looser pivot; or single-only for classic mid-length glide and trim. The same box layout supports both. Reference shape: Ryan Lovelace's mid-lengths — twin-or-single is the same playbook he runs on shapes like the Rabbit's Foot.
Need help picking between rake and pivot fin templates for the single, or modern keel vs upright twin for the twin setup? Read the fin guide, then start a conversation — Blake's happy to talk through what's going to match your riding before you lock the build.
Recommended Fins
Spectre runs as a 2+1 (large center fin + side bites) or pure single-fin. Either way, the center fin does the trim work — pick a drawn-out template that holds long lines through power. Pivot-leaning side bites (when running 2+1) keep direction changes crisp.

Where each recommended fin sits between drawn-out rake (heavier arcs, more hold) and tight pivot (vertical release, modern shortboard turning). Mid-rake (neutral) is the balanced default.
Drawn-out arcs. Power, hold, drive through long-line turns.
Balanced — drive plus pivot release. The everyday HPSB default.
Tight, vertical release. Modern shortboard pivot off the top.

NVSC-Drive Apexmid-rake (neutral)
On a mid-length, the spectrum reads: rake = drive and hold through the trim phase; mid-rake = a more pivoty mid-length feel. Pivot-leaning fins are typically used on smaller-side bites in 2+1 setups.
WHAT TO PICK
Mid-lengths default to rake-leaning to mid-rake — the design is built for trim speed and clean drawn-out turns. Lean rake for traditional 2+1 setups and longer trim lines; lean mid-rake when the model wants a touch more pivot off the top. Per-fin picks for this model are coming — message Blake for current recommendations.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What kind of waves is the Spectre built for?
Clean waist-to-head surf with shape — soft-breaking points, beach breaks with a rideable face, reefs on a mellow day. The mid-length wants a face to draw turns on, not just a peak to drop into. Not tuned for dead-flat mush (a wider/flatter groveler will plane earlier) or hollow-reef heavy surf (a shortboard or step-up holds better).
Who is the Spectre for?
Intermediate-to-advanced surfers who want glide and paddle without giving up turning ability. We see two customer paths: shortboarders sizing up for paddle and softer-wave performance, and longboarders sizing down for turns without losing glide. If you fall into either group, the mid-length category is probably worth trying; the Spectre is where we'd start.
What fin setup does the Spectre ride?
2+1 stock — a single center fin (standard 10" box) plus two smaller Futures side bites for stability and drive. Pull the side plugs and ride single-only for a more traditional mid-length feel; the same box layout supports both. We don't offer thruster, quad, or twin configurations on this shape — the vee-panel tail geometry is tuned around 2+1 / single.
How should I size the Spectre?
Mid-length sizing depends on what you're coming from. Shortboarders transitioning up: keep your shortboard volume, add 1'0"–1'6" of length. Longboarders transitioning down: drop ~10–15L of volume from your log and land in the 50–55L range. Between sizes? Size up in volume for softer waves, down in length for tighter turns.
What's the turnaround time?
4–6 weeks on a clear-sanded build, 6–8 weeks on gloss-and-polish, 8–10 weeks on tint-sanded. All turnaround reflects current queue — timeline confirms when you place the order. Lock your slot with a 25% deposit.
Can I change the tail shape?
Yes. Mid-length customers commonly pick their tail from round, round-pin, squash, or pulled-in squash — each rides slightly differently. No upcharge between options. Blake will help you pick based on how you ride.
How is the Spectre different from a longboard?
A longboard (Fantasma, Black Pearl, Lunada) is built around trim, noseriding, and long-line glide — typically 9'0"+ length, single-fin primary, fraction-inch W/T conventions, no volume measurement shown. The Spectre is shorter (7'0"–8'6"), turns more sharply thanks to high exit rocker + vee tail, and runs a 2+1 setup. Think of it as a performance mid-length, not a short longboard.
Can I demo a Spectre before ordering?
We don't run a formal demo program — every board is built to order — but we sometimes have a Spectre in the shop inventory. Check `/shop/in-stock` or message Blake if you want to see what's currently available. Custom orders are the main path; clearance inventory is the fastest way to get on the shape and decide if a custom build makes sense.
