The Pin Twin is our modern twin fin — built for clean waist-to-head surf with shape and push.
WHAT IT WANTS
Clean, shaped waves — waist-high to head-high beach break, point, or reef with some push. The pin tail wants a face to drive off; dead-flat mush won't bring the shape alive.
SKILL LEVEL
For intermediates comfortable on a fin setup without a stabilizer center fin, and for advanced surfers who want speed from shape rather than loose pivot from fin count.
WHAT IT'S NOT
Not a flat-day groveler — for knee-high mush, a wider and flatter shape with more volume will plane and paddle better. Not a hollow-reef board either; when the surf gets big and heavy, a dedicated shortboard or step-up will give you more control.
BUILD DETAILS
Build overview — rocker profile, rail shapes, fin positions. Hover any zone for the per-section call-outs.

THE DESIGN
Medium entry rocker paddles well; a slight vee in the nose keeps the board tracking clean on the open face. Single concave under the belly adds lift and speed, flowing into a double concave through the tail that drives water behind the fins. The pin tail holds a line where a swallow would slide — this is a twin that drives rather than pivots.
THE RAILS
60/40 down rails through the midsection feel forgiving at twin-fin speeds; hard rails through the last 12" of the tail release water cleanly at speed — matching the pin-tail's drive intent.

STOCK DIMENSIONS
Stock dimensions are where we start. Customers tweak width, thickness, and volume to match where they surf and how they ride. Talk to Blake about any adjustments you'd like to make — he'll help you dial in a board with your riding preferences in mind.

+ How to think about dims
Length. Longer = more rail line in the water (drives through a turn, holds through flat sections, paddles better). Shorter = quicker rail-to-rail, tighter in the pocket, gives up some drive. Twin fins reward extra length more than a shortboard does — a 6'0" twin often rides like a 5'10" thruster.
Width. Narrower = holds a line in clean, fast waves; faster rail-to-rail. Wider = paddles better, more stable in softer surf, sits flatter on rail. Twin fins run slightly wider than their thruster equivalents because the fin setup generates less drive on its own.
Thickness / volume. More volume = more paddle and more margin on soft days. Less volume = sensitive underfoot; rails sink cleanly; turns feel crisper. Size for the waves you actually surf, not the ones you hope to surf. On a twin, most customers size up 1–2L compared to their go-to shortboard.
Between sizes? We usually size up in volume (not length) for softer waves, and down in volume for overhead surf with real push.

FIN SETUP
Twin only. Futures boxes. The pin tail and contour are tuned around a twin fin specifically — we don't offer quad, thruster, or trailer conversions on this shape. If you want a different fin setup, look at the other Lundquist twins (which offer different feels) or our shortboard models.
Need help picking between rake and pivot templates? Read the fin guide, then start a conversation — Blake's happy to talk it through before you lock the build.
Recommended Fins
The Pin Twin is a traditional twin fin with a pin tail — it wants keel-style fins with more base and less height. The pin tail already provides hold, so the fins should emphasize speed and flow rather than adding more grip.

Drawn-out arcs. Power, hold, drive through long-line turns.
Balanced — drive plus pivot release. The everyday HPSB default.

On a twin fin, the spectrum reads: rake = sustained drive and trim speed in fattier waves; mid-rake = the everyday pick that still releases off the top. Pivot-leaning twins exist but are rare.
WHAT TO PICK
Twin fins live mid-rake to rake-leaning. Drive and looseness both want the side fins to hold a long arc rather than pivot tight. Lean rake for fattier, drawn-out point break and longer carves; sit nearer mid-rake when you want a touch more release on punchy beach break. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Will the Pin Twin work in knee-to-waist surf?
Not really. The pin tail and medium rocker want a face to drive off — dead-flat mush won't bring the shape alive. If you're mostly surfing knee-high soft surf, a wider and flatter groveler will plane and paddle better. The Pin Twin starts coming alive around waist-high when the wave has shape.
Why a pin tail on a twin instead of a swallow?
Different intent. A swallow tail releases water early — looser, more pivot, great for small-wave fish feel. A pin holds. Paired with a double concave tail that drives water behind the fins, the Pin Twin generates drive out of turns where a swallow-tail twin would slide. This is a twin built to drive rather than pivot.
Can I order the Pin Twin as a quad or twin + trailer?
No. The pin tail and contour are tuned around a twin fin specifically — the way the rails, rocker, and tail release work together depends on the twin setup. A quad or trailer conversion would fight the shape. If you want a twin+trailer, look at other Lundquist twins. If you want a quad, look at the shortboard models.
How long until my Pin Twin is ready?
Turnaround depends on the finish:
- Clear resin sanded — 4–6 weeks
- Tint gloss + polish — 6–8 weeks
- Resin tint sanded — 8–10 weeks

What fins do you recommend on the Pin Twin?
Template recommendations across Futures, FCS II, True Ames, and NVS are finalizing right now. Until they're dialed in, start the custom order and we'll recommend a template based on your weight, stance, and the waves you're riding most. For now: mid-rake twin templates work well — avoid full keels (too raked for the pin tail) and upright pivot twins (undo the tail's hold).
Should I size up or down from my shortboard on a twin?
Usually up in volume, not length. Most customers ride a twin 1–2L heavier than their go-to shortboard — twins generate less drive from fin count, so extra volume keeps the board planning through flat sections. Length can stay the same or drop slightly; a 6'0" twin often rides like a 5'10" thruster.
Is the Pin Twin a beginner board?
Not quite. It's built for intermediates who are comfortable without a stabilizer center fin, and for advanced surfers who want speed from shape rather than loose pivot from a thruster setup. Beginners are better served by a wider, flatter, higher-volume shape with a thruster or 2+1 setup for forgiveness.
Can I try a Pin Twin before ordering one?
Sometimes. We keep a small number of display boards in the shop in San Clemente so you can hold one, check the pin-tail outline, see the finish. Message us to confirm what's currently available — stock rotates as boards sell.
